Caving:
Vancouver Island is home to many cave formations. At every summer camp and one or twice during the regular school years we journey to one of three caving spots on the Island. Most often we head to the Horne Lake Caves Park and rent their equipment and check out of the caves there.
The caves are slightly cold and completely dark with varied and interesting rock formations. Kids love getting immersed in the darkness of the depths of the earth. Most people have never experienced darkness so complete that you couldn't see your own hand in front of your face.
But not to worry, we take all of the necessary safety precautions such as plenty of extra lighting sources and hard hats for the heads.
In the caves, the kids will see crystals, stalactites, stalagmites and the occasional fossil embedded in the limestone. |
