Hiking

There are lots of trails in the forests and mountains around Campbell River. As part of our 'healthy body' means a 'healthy mind' approach, we take the kids on long walks (moderate hikes) into the wilderness. The kids aren't always happy about the idea of having to go for a walk in the woods, but it's mandatory. And when they do actually get out into the woods, they invariably have a good time.

We almost always see some amazing wildlife. But never worry; we coach the kids in proper behaviour and safety around wild animals. Part of their English study is to review the Parks Canada 'safety around wild animals' pamphlets.

Vancouver Island is home to abundant temperate rain forests. These forests are filled with ferns and some of the biggest trees in the world.
